On the fluoride by-product in aluminum production
In today's industrial affairs, the production of aluminum is an important item. However, in this process, fluoride is produced as a by-product, and its conditions and effects cannot be ignored.
The smelting of aluminum is mostly based on the cryolite-alumina molten salt electrolysis method. During the operation of this method, the raw materials and reaction mechanisms used cause fluoride to escape. In the electrolyzer, cryolite and other fluorinated substances, under high temperature and electrochemical reaction, some fluorine elements are converted into by-products in various forms. Such as gaseous hydrogen fluoride, which is irritating, escapes into the atmosphere, and can cause air pollution. And this hydrogen fluoride, when exposed to water vapor, easily forms hydrofluoric acid, which is highly corrosive.
There are also solid fluorides, such as aluminum fluoride, etc., or they remain in the waste residue of electrolyzers. If such waste residues are not disposed of properly, fluoride will leach with rain, etc., and can penetrate into soil and water bodies. If it enters the soil, it will affect the soil quality, cause acidic changes in the soil, and hinder plant growth; if it enters the water body, it will endanger aquatic organisms, and conduct through the food chain, and eventually endanger human health.
Furthermore, in the vicinity of aluminum production plants, the fluoride content in the air, soil, and water is often different from the normal due to the discharge of fluoride by-products. The surrounding residents are exposed to this environment for a long time, and are prone to diseases such as fluorosis, fluorosis, and bone disease, and their physical functions are damaged.
Therefore, in order to properly dispose of fluoride by-products in aluminum production, it is appropriate to improve the process source. Develop new raw material formulas or optimize electrolysis processes to reduce fluoride production. In the discharge stage, strengthen the treatment of waste gas and waste residue. Capture hydrogen fluoride with an efficient waste gas purification device; Rational landfill or resource utilization of waste residue, so that fluoride in it is stabilized and does not cause harm to escape. In this way, the aluminum production industry can not only thrive, but also reduce the harm of fluoride by-products, and achieve a harmonious coexistence between industry and the environment.
